Joseph Skrzynski was appointed a Fellow of the Senate of the University of Sydney by the Minister for Education and Training for a four year term commencing on 1 January 2006 and concluding on 31 December 2009.

Mr Skrzynski is currently Chair of Senate's Investment and Commercialisation Committee. He was a member of the Selection Committee for a new Vice-Chancellor to replace Professor Gavin Brown on his retirement.

He is the Managing Director of Castle Harlan Australian Mezzanine Partners group (CHAMP), the largest venture capital and private equity funds management group in Australia.

Portfolio company investments have been in biotech, IT, manufacturing, logistics, health services, media and trading, and have resulted in IPOs in Australia, Singapore and the United States.

CHAMP is affiliated with Castle Harlan, Inc. and the combined group manages over $4.2 billion in institutional funds in private equity.

Mr Skrzynski is a graduate of the Economics Faculty at the University of Sydney (1966-69), and served as President S.U.E.S., Vice President and Treasurer SRC and Treasurer SUU.

His involvement in community, film, TV and the performing arts activities has included CEO, Australian Film Commission; Deputy Chair, Major Organisation Board Australia Council; Chair: Sydney Opera House Trust; Australian Film, Television & Radio School; the Broadcasting Council; and The National Capital Development Authority; Director: Aboriginal Arts & Crafts Pty Limited; Sydney Dance Company; Seymour Centre; and the Australian Architecture Association Fund.

Mr Skrzynski was made an officer of the Order of Australia in the Australia Day 2008 honours, in recognition of service to the cultural environment, particularly through visionary leadership and management strategies as Chairman of the Sydney Opera House Trust, through mentoring Australian film makers, to business through the venture capital and private equity industry, and to support for Indigenous scholarships.
