Names and titles

In most instances, refer to a person using their full given name and surname. Include a middle initial ("Jane T Smith") or any preferred variation only on request – for example, "Professor SI 'Charlie' Benrimoj" and "Borislav (Bob) J Kotic".

When including the middle initial, use the format above – with no full stops – over other variations (such as J T Smith). If the person uses their second name as their given name, the initial may be used for their first name (J Therese Smith).

For buildings, lectures, and so on that are named after a person, close up the space between the initials and don't use full stops. For example:

JT Smith Memorial Award
RC Mills Building
HK Ward Gymnasium
