Domestic fee-paying students

The Commonwealth does not contribute towards the cost of the education of domestic fee-paying students, so the student has to pay more for a domestic fee-paying place than for a Commonwealth supported place. In 2007 annual domestic fees will range from $17,472 for Arts to $32,256 for Vet Science (fees are subject to adjustment annually). The annual cost for most courses is under $22,000. Students pay their fees twice a year at the beginning of each semester.

Domestic fee-paying students who are Australian citizens or holders of a Permanent Humanitarian Visa can gain assistance in paying their fees through the Commonwealth Government's FEE-HELP program. In 2007, the FEE-HELP limit is $80,000, and $100,000 for students studying dentistry, medicine or veterinary science. This amount is indexed each year. There is a 20 per cent loan fee on the amounts borrowed through FEE-HELP.

To apply for a domestic fee-paying place students go through UAC using the domestic fee-paying (DFEE) codes listed in the UAC brochure. (Students can apply for both a domestic fee-paying place and a Commonwealth supported place on the same UAC application).
