Extra-curricular activity tips
- Clubs and societies are a great way to meet people; get involved early on.
- Instead of just joining clubs and societies during O-Week and never participating in them after that, make sure you get along to the first few meetings. At least this way, you will get a bit of an idea what the club does, before you make a decision whether or not to keep attending.
- Voluntary work is a great way to get experience and exposure to the industry of your interest. Have a think about offering some of your vacation time. You will often find that paid employment will result from a stint of volunteer work. If you are not sure about how to find voluntary work in your industry, have a chat to your lecturer.
- Uni isn't just about study, go and enjoy one of the gyms or coffee places on campus.
- Keep a look out for all the types of activities that you can do at uni. They will be in the Daily Bulletin (daily mag put out by the Union) and on the poster boards that are scattered around campus.
- Strike a balance between work and play - make sure you enjoy yourself, but don't forget to hand those assignments in on time!
- Get involved in university life - Union committees offer designated first year positions and lots of clubs and societies will be looking for new members. First-year is a great time to be involved and you'll meet new friends and learn about the uni.
