Family Day Care
What is Family Day Care?
Family Day Care is a child care service where care is provided for small groups of children (usually four to five) in the home of an approved carer. Carers register with their local government coordination unit and are matched with families based on care requirements. Area coordinators work closely with carers by monitoring the carer along with details of groups and vacancies in the area.
Family Day Care is available for children aged 6 weeks to 12 years and may be able to provide flexible hours to suit a variety of situations. Family Day Care can cater for full-time, part-time and before and after school care as well as other situations such as respite care. Child care subsidies are available for families using Family Day Care.
Family Day Care services are subject to the quality assurance standards imposed by the National Child Care Accreditation Council, as are all Long Day Care and Out of School Hours Care centres.
How can I apply for Family Day Care?
To apply for Family Day Care, contact your local council’s Family Day Care coordination unit. Please note there may be a waiting list you must join before finding a carer. Contact details of your local area coordination units can be obtained from the NSW Family Day Care Association (02) 9572 9440 or toll free on 1800 157 818 or by looking under ‘Family Day Care’ in the White Pages telephone directory. The local area coordination units are the first point of contact for parents needing care as they will match you to an appropriate carer dependant on your needs.
