The information provided here is for staff and students of the University who are parents. It provides information on activities and services in the local area of the University of Sydney (Newtown, Camperdown, Glebe, Marrickville, Leichhardt) for children aged 0-5 years and their parents.

Local Parents Groups

USYD Parents Network

Do you have young children? Have you recently applied for or taken parental leave or time off study at the University of Sydney to care for young children? Are you looking for some helpful ideas on juggling work/study and family responsibilities? Would you like to join a group of staff and students who have young children, who meet regularly to share information and support in a friendly, informal environment? Would you like to attend seminars with guest speakers on topics such as nutrition, language development and other topics of interest for parents?

The Parents Network meets regularly during lunch times. BYO lunch.

Topics addressed at Parents Network meetings:

  • parental leave
  • child care
  • negotiating flexible working conditions
  • supportive networking with other parents of young children at the University.
  • guest speakers on topics of interest for parents

Playgroups

Playgroups NSW

Playgroup NSW is a not-for-profit community organisation operating with financial support from the Department of Family and Community Services and annual membership fees.

Membership fees are kept to a minimum to allow access to playgroups by all members of the community.

Playgroup NSW is administered by a voluntary Board of Management, which meets monthly to set policy and direction for the organisation. Employed staff are responsible for the day to day management of the Association.

Other Playgroups

Not all playgroups are registerd with Playgroups NSW. Sometimes various community groups may set up a playgroup in the local area. For information about such groups check local newspapers, community noticeboards (eg library, shopping centres, church noticeboards etc.
