Social Trips & Unimates
The ISSU provides International students with various opportunities to meet other students and take part in social activities and trips throughout the year. These activities and trips are open to students from all campuses of the University.
In this section you will find information about:
- Unimates: a social group which meets weekly and gives you the opportunity to make new friends and support each other.
- Social Trips and Activities: organised to help you meet new people and see some of Sydney and Australia
- Study Abroad/Exchange Buddy Program: a program to help Study Abroad and Exchange students settle in to university life and make friends while you are here.
Unimates
The Unimates program offers you an opportunity to meet other students and make new friends.
The program is run by students and consists of weekly 'coffee and cake' social meetings. Regular social activities are also organised, giving you a chance to socialise outside uni and see some of Sydney and surrounding regions.
Unimates aims to support members in a relaxed and friendly environment.
Activities include:
- Weekly coffee and cake (every Wednesday 11.30am – 12.30pm on the lawn behind ISSU)
- BBQ at the beach
- Crossing the Harbour Bridge and climbing the pylons
- Ferry ride to Manly
- Olympic Park visit

Social Trips & Activities
The ISSU and Colourful Trips organise social trips and activities throughout the year to help you:
- Meet new people
- Find out more about the new culture
- Experience Sydney and its surrounding regions

Students from all campuses of the University are invited to take part in the trips and activities provided. Please note, trips depart from either the Camperdown/Darlington campus or from the city.
Tickets for any of the trips and activities can be purchased from:
- STA Travel - Level 3, Wentworth Building; or
- Colourful Trips under 'University Trips'
Please note, bookings are transferable. Refunds are available only when cancellation is made by the Wednesday before the tour departure day.
All ISSU trips and activities are organised and run by Colourful Trips in consultation with ISSU. Colourful Trips is dedicated to providing International students with an enjoyable experience of Australia. They run many trips throughout the year at times which may be more convenient for you. Study Abroad/Exchange Buddy Program
The International Student Support Unit manages a mentoring program for new Study Abroad and Exchange students. This program is run in conjunction with the Study Abroad and Student Exchange Unit.
The purpose of the program is to:
- Connect new International exchange students with current students.
- Provide general advice, support, encouragement and social contact for new students, in order to assist in adjusting to studying and living In Sydney.
- Make a valuable contribution in supporting the transition of exchange students and to create a more supportive learning environment.
The local students who provide this support may also benefit by:
- Developing communication skills through the ISSU training program.
- Make contact with people from the country they will visit and study in.
- Make a contribution to internationalizing the University.
