Welcome
Message from the Director, Alex. McBratney

Hi I'm Alex. On behalf of my colleagues and myself, I'd like to welcome you to our website. Precision agriculture, and we prefer that term to precision farming, offers the possibility of simultaneously reaping better quality crops and environmental benefits. It is a revolution in agriculture brought about by information technology. The Australian Centre for Precision Agriculture was set up in 1995 to ensure that this revolution is successful by providing excellent science and training eventually leading to practical sustainable precision agricultural systems. Explore the various web pages - there's lots of information here and links to a galaxy of more.

In particular I would like to draw your attention to some specific sections of our site:

There is an updated version of the Vesper User Manual

On the Publications and References page you can view the full catalogue of ACPA publications and a number of specific interest papers are available for download.  On the 10th anniversary of the  1995  booklet  on Site-Specific Managament for the Cotton Industry, we have released an update entitled  'Precision Decisions for Quality Cotton'.

There is also now an Educational Resources section within the Publications and References page which will continue to be built upon.

Also our spatial prediction software - Vesper - is available for shareware download at minimal cost.

I'd like to thank

for funding our research.

Computronics, Harvestmaster and OmniStar have also generously provided in-kind support.

We thank the numerous farmers who have participated in our research, particularly Craig & Judy Boydell ("Romaka"), who have allowed us to run experiments on their properties beginning in 1994. More recently the assistance from farmers in the Conservation Farmers Inc. PA group, Riverine Plains Inc, SPAA and Corrigin Farm Improvement Group has been invaluable. Also thanks is extended to the cotton farms which have allowed us to conduct research - Auscott Midkin; Oakville; Norwood; Teleraga; Togo; Clyde and Tandou.
