Departmental Links

The University Department is a partially devolved Department, with a central secreteriat located in the Queen Elizabeth II Research Institute for Mothers and Infants within the University and seperate devolved Academic Units located in the Clinical Schools. The current Head of Department is Professor Douglas Saunders.

Queen Elizabeth II Research Institute for Mothers and Infants

The central secretariat maintains the administrative control of the Department, responsible for curricula, examinations, policy, post-graduate courses and University relations.

The Institute contains, research facilities for Professor Ian Fraser, with his laboratory work on menstrual function and A/Professor Suzanne Abraham working with psychosomatic O&G research and undergraduate clinical skills development.

Professor Fraser has links for contraceptive research with the Sydney Centre for Reproductive Health Research and the Family Planning Association at Ashfield.

The Centre for Perinatal Health Services Research with Professor David Henderson-Smart is also located in the Institute.

Central Clinical School

This department is currently located at King George V Hospital, but in 1999 there will be partial transfer of teaching to Canterbury Hospital. Professor R Houghton is Head of Department. Sydney IVF, located in O'Connell St, Sydney offers post-graduate teaching in reproductive endocrinology and infertility.

Northern Clinical School

This department is located in the University Clinic, Royal North Shore Hospital. Professor Douglas Saunders is Head of Department. Teaching is also conducted at Hornsby, Mater, Northern Private and Hunter's Hill Private Hospitals. North Shore ART located in Thomas St. Chatswood provides teaching in reproductive endocrinology and infertility.

Western Clinical School

Professor Peter Illingworth is Head of Department and is located at the University Clinic, Westmead Medical Centre. Teaching is carried out on 2 sites within the school, at Westmead and at Nepean Hospital. Professor Michael Peek is Head at Nepean Hospital.

Canberra Clinical School

This Department is more independant in its teaching program because of the distance and the RPP for Women and Children for the GMP, commencing in 1999 will be entirely held in Canberra. The Head of Department is Professor David Ellwood.
