SUN Mentoring Register

join the mentor program

Are you looking for a mentor? Would you like to be a mentor to other women in the University?

The SUN Mentoring Register is to assist SUN members to find a mentor within the Network. In doing so, it furthers three of SUN's four major goals:

  • To improve access to networking and skill sharing opportunities.
  • To promote the establishment of a mentoring program so as to significantly contribute to the career development of University women.
  • To promote University women's skills and confidence and provide support and assistance with professional development (eg. promotion, career opportunities and research).

The Register has been established with the invaluable assistance and support of the SUN Committee and SUN Mentors.

Mentoring provides a person with support, guidance and feedback from another person with more experience. A mentoring relationship can be helpful for focusing career aspirations, for assistance with a specific aspect of work (management, teaching, etc.), or for general guidance from a person with more experience in the area of interest. Mentoring is different to supervision, and is often provided by someone outside the immediate work area.

For the mentor:

  • The opportunity to contribute and a sense of satisfaction
  • Developing your skills in leadership and coaching
  • Extending your networks and gaining new perspectives
  • Recognition of your skills and expertise
  • Training in mentoring skills and tips on better mentoring through the SUN website
  • SUN Mentor Social and Support events

For the mentee:

  • Learn and develop your potential through a supportive relationship
  • Extend your network and raise your profile
  • Enhance your career options
  • Training in how to find the most appropriate mentor, and tips on getting the most from your mentoring relationship from the SUN website
  • SUN social events
