Appointment of Sydney Student Program Director

Sandra Sirasch, Sydney Student program Director

I am pleased to announce the appointment of Sandra Sirasch to the position of Program Director, Sydney Student, effective from 16 March 2009.

Sandra has worked in the Higher Education sector for 34 years. During that time she has held various senior academic positions such as Director, Assistant Dean, Deputy Dean and Deputy Executive Dean. She has also held senior administrative roles such as Director and Coordinator. Sandra was the person responsible for the initiation, negotiation, development and management of the multimillion dollar contract to retrain BHP workers as teachers at the time of the BHP closure in Newcastle. The program won National Teaching and Business Higher Education Round Table awards.

Most recently Sandra has been the Director Corporate Information at the University of Newcastle. In this role she was responsible for university information and reporting including statutory reporting and performance reporting. She was also responsible for the University’s web and records office. The position was directly responsible for the implementation and management of a new data warehouse which draws data from all of the University’s corporate systems to allow integrated reporting to occur.

Throughout her career Sandra has also been involved in the development and implementation of IT systems and business processes supporting academic outcomes, including systems used to manage the University’s online tutorial registration, unit of study and course tracking and the redevelopment of the university’s web site to better support students and staff.

The mix of both academic and general staff experience and the range of activities undertaken give Sandra a unique perspective and understanding of the Higher Education sector and the University environment.

Sandra joins the University as it moves into the vital implementation stage of the Sydney Student project. Her new role will encompass the project management responsibilities previously undertaken by Deborrah Lambourne, Chief Operating Officer (Community). I express my sincere appreciation to Deborrah for all her work on the project, as she moves to a new appointment as General Manager, Project Management Office within the University’s Operations Portfolio. Please join me in welcoming Sandra Sirasch to the University of Sydney and the Sydney Student program.
