Approach

Approach

Sydney Student Program activity is grouped into two major streams of activity:

  • Student Initiatives – development of an enhanced and more coherent whole of University student administration ‘Service Delivery Model’, across the dimensions of strategy & governance, students & interfaces, organisation & people, process and enabling infrastructure.
  • Systems and Technology design and implementation of new system and phased replacement of FlexSIS system.
Looking up to the sky

The two streams of activity will continuously interface across the program lifecycle to deliver an integrated system and service delivery model (people and process) for student administration at the University. These streams will be supported by a dedicated Program Management Office (PMO) which has been set up to ensure an aligned approach across project activities and to provide centralised operational support.

A multi-disciplinary program team comprised of University staff, external consultants, system vendor staff and external contractors will ensure the right mix of skills and knowledge to achieve the stated outcomes.

Consultation & research

Since January 2008 the Sydney Student team has undertaken significant consultation and analysis to ensure University stakeholders with knowledge and understanding of student administration processes and requirements, have had an opportunity to provide input and feedback into activity to date.

Examples of consultation and research to-date include:

  • Review of all University materials related to student administration function and FlexSIS system
  • Direct consultation of over 150 University staff through workshops and forums to inform high level tender requirements and people & process review.
  • Structured interviews with senior University academics and professional staff
  • Current and former student interviews and focus groups
  • Domestic and international site visits to US, Canada, UK, Ireland
  • Tender evaluation process with student administration staff
  • Community vendor presentations with student administration staff
  • Scenario development and vendor scenario evaluation involving over 100 University staff
  • Ongoing consultation with University subject matter experts on relevant initiatives
